A Guide to Common Furnace Problems in Bakersfield, CA Homes
Your furnace is a complex machine. Here are some of the most common issues our Bakersfield, CA technicians encounter, and what they might mean for your system.
- Your Furnace Won't Turn On: This could be something simple like a tripped circuit breaker, an issue with your thermostat's settings or batteries, or a turned-off furnace power switch. It could also indicate a more complex problem with the transformer, thermostat, or control board.
- Your Furnace is Blowing Cold Air: The most common cause is a dirty flame sensor that needs cleaning. It could also be a problem with the pilot light or electronic ignition system, or an issue with the gas supply.
- The Furnace Burner Flame is Yellow, Not Blue: A yellow or flickering burner flame is a serious safety concern. It often indicates dirty burners or a problem with the gas-to-air mixture, which can produce carbon monoxide. If you see this, turn off your furnace and call us immediately.
- You Hear Strange Noises: A high-pitched squealing could mean a problem with the blower motor belt or bearings. A rattling noise might indicate loose panels or hardware. A loud booming or banging sound on startup could be a delayed ignition issue, which is dangerous and requires immediate professional attention.
- Your Utility Bills Have Increased Suddenly: A sudden spike in your heating bills for your Bakersfield, CA home can be a sign that your furnace is losing efficiency. This is often caused by dirty filters, a poorly maintained blower, or leaky ductwork.
